Trusting the Method
Let’s face it: homeschooling is hard. As parent-educators, we want to prepare our children spiritually, mentally, and physically for the fullness of life. On this journey we face pressures and doubts. We wonder about our pace and progress. We wonder about results. We feel inadequate and can’t help but compare ourselves to others around us. When our worries threaten to overwhelm us we seek refuge in faith. Many veterans on this journey tell us to simply “trust the method.” Is this answer Miss Mason would give? How would she tell us to balance faith, reason, and responsibility in this great task of raising the children entrusted to our care? Hear my comprehensive answer recorded live at the 2025 Living Education Retreat.

As a parent who is still learning the process, I am guilty of making the methodology be a system and a list of do’s and don’ts. Idyll Challenge help me balance it out and now this, thank you for sharing this. it silenced the fear and amplifies how and why I choose and still continue to trust the process.
Thank you for letting me know that this message was helpful!
Art, thank you so much for this message. It is very well thought through. You know the method that I practice in my work, but the principle of understanding the founder’s explanations and reasons is essential. In my community, there is a lack of familiarity, and sometimes a misunderstanding, of the founder’s method, which often results in modern “adaptations” that fail to keep what made the original work, or with others leads to a refusal to adapt anything, which fails to take account of the changes of community and time.
I too have failed my children, and my wife, by being negative, angry, absent, lazy, prideful… but God is merciful. I have another chance to change course, and he is teaching me, although whatever damage has already been done is beyond my ability to undo.
Thank you for sharing your personal experience. It’s so encouraging to hear from someone that has had similar vices and misdeeds, and to hear a reminder that we all depend on God’s mercy. I wish we were neighbors, but in a way it feels like we are. 😉
God bless you brother!
Thank you so much for this! It is EXACTLY what I needed. I think God was speaking to me through your amazing message.
Thank you and praise God!
